Glen Derby Farmhouse

Glen Derby farmhouse, in 2015, is little more than a few low stone walls, a good walk further up the track from the Log Cabins. A beautiful place for a picnic, but a long way from the village and school. There are stories of how, on dark winter afternoons, the father of the children from the farmhouse, would walk half way to  Kirkmichael with a lantern to guide his children towards home, and then walk the other half of the journey with them.

Comments about this page

  • Originally an isolated shepherd’s cottage about three miles along a track from Kirkmichael the house was reasonably wind and watertight and locked by Pitcarmick Estate (key was under the gutter!) until the late 1970s when it was accidently set on fire by persons unknown.
