  • Ardle was a Pictish prince who was killed in battle with the Vikings at Enochdhu and is buried as shown beside Dirnanean Lodge. The length of the grave supports the legend that he was a giant but there is also a belief that another warrior is buried at his feet! In any case he gave his name to the river and the strath.

    For accuracy the last photo is actually of Ardle Cottage and Granite Cottage, Bridge of Cally (opposite Corriefodly)
