The original Tarvie House was in fact demolished and a new modern house was built on the same site with completion in 2015.
The “haystacks” are in fact corn (oats) stacks. In the days of the binder corn sheaves were stacked like this after harvest to await the arrival of the travelling threshing mill. They were always thatched or “thyked” with straw to keep the rain out with the thatch secured by weighted esparto (“sparty”) ropes.
