In October 1878 William and his servant Walter A Fry went to Valparaiso Chile on the Steamer Liguria they travelled first class the journey took approximately six weeks. It cost £75 for William and £50 for his servant Walter Fry. His father Patrick Keir paid for the trip. £125 in 1878 would be worth £13,875 in 2018.
