Glen Derby Collection
Though the Mains of Glenderby was farmed for many years, it was abandoned in the mid 20th Century. In the 1960’s a development was started, originally planned as holiday homes with a hotel. The hotel was opened in 1967, and by 2015 had 2 changes of name, from Edelweiss, to Log Cabin Hotel, to Pinetrees hotel. In the 1970’s with the growth of the ski industry at Glenshee the Edelweiss Hotel became well known for its apres-ski and its dinner dances. Some cabins continue to be holiday homes (some by the original families), but around half in 2015 are permanent homes. They are very distinctive with turf roofs.
