Tony Reid's Memories

Anthony Gordon Reid was born on 27/02/1927.  His family have lived in the area for centuries and, despite being born in Hastings and having spent much of his early years at boarding school, in the army, and at Cambridge University, Tony has been in the area almost his entire life.

He built the log cabins in the Glen Derby area and, in 1967, set up the Edelweiss Hotel.  The Hotel became a thriving social centre for both tourists and locals.

He also wrote a book about the history of Strathardle which includes some personal memories about Balnakilly, his estate, and the building of the Edelweiss and log cabins.

Interview took place on Saturday 12th October 2013 and Tuesday 29th October 2013 at the interviewee’s house.

Interview conducted by Richard Stratton.
